My mama is a quilter extraordinaire. She doesn't just make quilts, she creates beautiful keepsakes with her keen eye for colors and her attention to details. I created this collection this past spring while my mama was helping one of my daughters sew her first quilt.
I wanted this collection feel like going to grandmother's house, from that song "Over the river and through the woods." In my mind, the trip to grandmother's would mean packing up the car and driving through the woods. Along the way, there would be woodland critters to see- especially deer and squirrels. The barns would be adorned with barn quilt stars and the snowflakes would be ginormous. As we drove, we would pass by little A-frame cottages and log cabins with smoke floating up from the chimneys. When we arrived, Grandma would have poinsettias on her front porch and there would be all sorts of pine cones and greenery in her yard. Grandpa would come out of the house with a steaming mug of cocoa in hand, wearing a green lumberjack-esque plaid flannel shirt. As day turned to night, the stars would be twinkling up in the sky, and I would slip into warm striped pajamas...
